Today’s instalment of #threequestions comes from Siobhan Phillips. You can find Siobhan on Twitter at @Word_Looney. Siobhan writes:
About you:
Ex-head of department and extended leadership. Wants to re-focus on teaching and learning and driving it through technology. Starts new job at Accrington Academy as English Teacher with this focus where most of the year groups have been given iPads. Passionate about technologies appropriate use for learning and not useage as an add on!
1. What place, if any, has technology got in education?
It can drive teaching and most importantly learning. Great for inspiring reluctant boy readers, creating curiosity and independent learners. Industry needs tech savvy crews! Also makes my life as a teacher, easier and more awesome!
2. What’s your favourite edtech tool for learning and why?
I can’t narrow it down because depending on what you what students to learn depends on what tech tool I use. I also use the I pedagogy wheel to help me plan. But I have used YouSpin, Ted, puppet pals, word pops, Socratic, Edmodo, to name a very few! There shouldn’t really be a favourite it should be what tool does the best job for that learners learning! I also write my own iBook revision books for year 11 students with videos and voice overs etc to their exam board spec skills.
3. What are your thoughts on students using mobile devices in the classroom?
When it’s planned properly with the learning experience and outcomes clear it’s a very powerful teaching and learning resource.
Thanks to Siobhan for taking the time to respond to the #threequestions. More tomorrow!
