Day 19 reveals an Ai-powered flash card revision platform

By December 19, 2024No Comments

Welcome to day nineteen of the 2024 Appvent calendar where today we will focus on Wisdolia.

We are a big fan of simple tools that do their job effectively and today’s offering doesn’t disappoint.  Enter Wisdolia…

Wisdolia uses AI to generate interactive and engaging revision flashcards in seconds.  It’s a super tool that can be used for revision or formative assessment.

AI tool of the day: Wisdolia

Creating flashcards is a well-known technique that can help students with retrieval practice when used effectively.  Wisdolia takes the best features of this technique and integrates AI to create a powerful learning process that incorporates feedback.

Educational Benefits:

In a matter of seconds, Wisdolia turns passive learning into active learning.  It does this by using AI to convert notes and information from various sources into interactive and engaging flashcards.

This tool is perfect for students preparing for tests or exams.  Flashcards can be created from YouTube videos, PDFs, PowerPoint documents, and many other file types.  You can choose between multiple-choice and open-ended questions.  It’s even possible to include diagrams if present in the source material.

When working through flashcards, students can chat with a bot to clarify any misconceptions to improve their understanding.  This process creates a quality learning loop.

Dare I say that this app makes revision fun and I only wish I had access to this when studying for my GCSEs!!

Practical Application:

Getting started with Wisdolia is super easy.  You simply need to choose your source material and then sign up.

Following this, Wisdolia will automatically create your flashcards and you are free to choose any topic from any subject.  The screen below shows the options you are presented with after pasting a YouTube link.

Before starting the quiz you have the option of reading through an AI-generated summary.

It’s great that the flashcards include open-ended questions as these are known to promote deeper understanding.  In the example below the feedback indicated that the answer was correct and provided some additional information that could have been included to provide a more comprehensive answer.  Wow!

Considerations and Tips:

A free account is perfect for learning how the platform works.  However, if you use it regularly you will undoubtedly hit the various limitations imposed on the freemium version.  A full pricing breakdown and all the available options are available here.

If using a YouTube video as your source material you need to make sure a transcript is available otherwise you will receive an error message.

As is the case for all AI tools, teachers and students are encouraged to check responses for bias and accuracy.

Teachers should consult their school’s data protection officer to check compliance.
