LaunchPad for iOS is simply awesome. I use it all the time. Honestly, I use it more for recreation than I do education but I see and hear about teachers wanting to have access to good quality copyright free music all the time. What better way than to create your own using the professional samples that get bundled with this great free App.
Quite rightly, educators worry about copyright and licensing. Here’s what the providers of the licensing on the samples that come free with LaunchPad say about their use (original here with a guide too here)…
Essentially what it means is this:
- all the samples are royalty free
- you can use them in your tracks
- you cannot make the samples available individually
- you cannot upload tracks that include just one loop and nothing else
So… how do you use it? To help (and apologies if you don’t like the style of music) I’ve made a screencast demonstrating the different screens and basic features of the App. You can view the screencast below. It’s a really versatile App which enables you to easily export your creations to Dropbox, Soundcloud and other locations as well as have the AudioCopy feature built in too so you can copy and paste your compositions in to lots of other music Apps on your iPad.
Have fun and please share if you’re using it with your students. I’d love to hear how you get on!
Happy learning!
Hi,
This post is really helpful expecially for film makers like me. You can also checkout amazing royalty-free background music at http://www.909music.com.
A great source for alternative and progressive rock music is http://www.freemusicpublicdomain.com/ All their music is free for personal and educational use. They have some really cool, obscure songs.
Thanks Rick
