Some might say that focusing an entire post on one keyboard shortcut might be a bit bonkers, but oh no… not with Ctrl + A.
Combine these two powerful little keys together and you’ll be going all ‘select all’ with everything in no time at all!
Why do I rate this shortcut so highly? Well it’s just one of those shortcuts – you know, like your standard Ctrl + C (copy), Ctrl + V (paste), Ctrl + X (cut) that you can use so quickly and so effectively to speed up your routines. But with Ctrl + A, you’ll be using it more than the others – just wait!
Of course, if you’re on a Mac just replace the combination with CMD and the letter to get the same effect. Why not try it for yourself?
Do you agree that Ctrl + A is the most powerful or shortcuts or are you more of a Ctrl + P (print) kinda user? I’d love to hear your favourite shortcuts in the comments.
Cheers
Mark
I like CTRL + N which opens up a new tab in your browser. But the best of all, especially on a Saturday or holiday is the Doolittle shortcut CTRL + M – it does absolutely nothing. 😀
Have you tried CTRL + Shift + T to bring up previously closed tabs? #thatisall :0
Creates new slide in PPT or Slides. Not completely useless…
Spot on with that one! In second place for me is PrtScr paste and crop
You need to get greenshot, makes taking screenshots much better No need to crop after.
search for the Snipping Tool in your start menu – it’s brilliant
I love CRTL+Y to redo a task I just did. I use it for formatting words, filling in cells, or simply redoing an undo.
I LOVE Ctrl-A !
Big fan of ctrl shift and f3. I’m a lazy typist.
Ctrl + Alt + Shift + ? (On a chromebook)
Brings up the onscreen shortcut map. No more random googling of shortcut keys! 🙂
Ctrl/CMd + Z is my real winner. Offers you an Undo even when you think there is no Undo! Not absolutely universal, but widespread enough to make it worth a shot. Has saved my bacon many times…
I do like the select all, especially at report time. However the one I use the most on my mac is cmd with the + or – to increase or decrease the text size. Love that tool rather than adjusting font size in the toolbar.
CTRL + Shift + V on Google Docs. Pastes while matching the destination formatting. Huuuge timesaver.
Love that – thanks Jonathan!
For me, its CMD + Shift + 4 (Screenshots on a Mac).
I write books and lesson plans for primary schools and that shortcut’s become muscle memory!
Hey Liane – I love that shortcut too but I love CMD + Ctrl + Shift + 4 even more as it saves the screenshot to your clipboard for you to simply paste anywhere 🙂
