Apple have just blown my mind… Having watched the keynote and seen their various new lines with MacBook Pro’s and new iPad Air and iPad mini with retina display, so forth and so on, I was pretty happy. Some great kit being offered there. It wasn’t until I was able to download Mavericks and the iOS updates to apps such as iMovie, Keynote, so forth and so on. Such amazing apps to support learning and create amazing things – having now had the chance to have an albeit brief play with some of them – my mind is blown. The new possibilities with some of the picture in picture options, for example, in iMovie. So much to think about. And to think they’re giving all of this amazing software away for free with new devices. That’s another game changer for the market, for consumers and for education. Bring it on! Watch this space for updates on how I think we could be developing learning even further through mobile technology with iPad. What are your thoughts?

They may give the software away free (I’m a mac and iPad user) but at a cost of £700+ for the new iPad?! Given the minimal production cost, I’d say Apple is in danger of being seen as even more money hungry than ever! Sad to say it!
The new iPad air is almost half the value you quote. Not quite sure what you’re saying given that?
Great bit of kit but I’m still of the opinion that our learners deserve a multi-OS experience (this after all is what they will experience post education) Our goal should be to teach skills by creative need rather than brand limitations (and that applies to all brands as they are all as bad as each when it comes to user loyalty and squabbling! )
I’m not talking about the teaching of ICT/Computing. I’m talking about the use of a device/ecosystem/technologies to support learning. Of course our students should experience Apple/PC/Pi etc. That’s a given 🙂
Mark,
We developed some really exciting educational iBooks especially for the iPad. Please take a look at our site http://learninginfinity.com and let me know if you would like to review them. I would love to get your feedback!
Thanks,
