Hello, I’m
Twenty years a teacher and school leader; more than a decade helping schools, trusts and school groups around the world make technology count. Better known to many as the ICT Evangelist.

The short version
I got into teaching to make a difference, and spent more than twenty years in the classroom doing exactly that: as a teacher, a middle leader and a senior leader, including leading teaching and learning on one of the world’s earliest large-scale 1:1 device programmes at Clevedon School. That experience is the bedrock of everything I do now.
Today I work independently with schools, trusts and school groups across the world on technology, AI and digital strategy, alongside a part-time role as Principal Education Consultant at NetSupport. I served as AI & Education consultant on the BBC Bitesize Guide to AI, and I co-wrote the Amazon best-selling EdTech Playbook with Olly Lewis. My blog has been sharing ideas freely since 2011 and won Education Blog of the Year along the way.
The through-line has never changed: pedagogy first, technology second. Great teaching is the point; technology is only ever the amplifier.
Frameworks I work with
Home-grown models, alongside TPACK, UDL and design thinking.
Pedagogy First, Technology Second
The philosophy underneath it all, with six evidence-informed guides on its own free microsite.
The 5Cs of digital cognition
A framework for thinking clearly about how digital tools interact with how children actually learn.
The STAIR prompting model
A practical model that helps educators get reliably useful results from generative AI.
