Come together, the #NRocks anthem

By June 12, 20163 Comments

In true David Cameron style, music will be accompanying this post:

At the start of the classic Primal Scream song, “Come Together” we hear the lyrics:

“This is a beautiful day
It is a new day
We are together, we are unified
And all for the cause
Because together we got power…”

This is the spirit of Northern Rocks.

I travelled from Newcastle to Leeds to get to the event and have just got home after driving a further 200+ miles to get back to the South West. I’m just one of the 500+ who travelled the country to congregate at this brilliant event.

Reclaiming Pedagogy? Reaffirming Education, I say. So many passionate and dedicated professionals, dedicated to developing their practice to inspire the children in their classrooms and their schools.

In her post today, co-founder and fellow ITL associate Debra Kidd wrote: “Thank you for tweeting your excitement and enthusiasm before, during and after the event. I’m sorry the wi-fi wasn’t good, but it didn’t matter. We didn’t need trending affirmation. Your joy was visible from space.”

Thank you to Debra and Emma for asking me to come and share again. It was as always a real privilege. I really enjoyed my session and the joy on the face of attendees seeing things such as Google Cardboard come to life for them and the immediate ideas that they thought of in its application in their classrooms will live with me for a long time. It was great too to catch up with so many friends and hear from some fantastic voices on education.

I don’t often share my presentations but in the interests of the ideals of Northern Rocks and to support those who weren’t able to attend, my presentation is below. If you have any questions about any elements, please do drop me a line via the comments section below.

Long may the learning, relationships, pledges, affirmations and ideas from Northern Rocks live on in our teaching, learning, sharing and supporting of our brilliant profession. I hope to see you all again very soon.
